IB 2017

Our students of grade 12 who have just finalized their IB final exams: Samuel Funder, Metti Girma, Isabelle Heusing, Lena Quincke, Max Reed, Michel and Robin Schubert together with their teachers. We sincerely hope that everybody will be happy once the results are published in July. We keep our fingers crossed!

Musical Greenella

Our kindergarten teacher Antonia Seitz came up with the idea of carrying out a musical project together with students of our school and our neighboring school called “Negat Kokeb School”. The premier of the musical “Greenella” was shown on Saturday, June 3rd where also the choir of the German Church School joined in. The story was about a little green girl, performed by our first grader Klara Williams, which came to a village where people of different colors lived. At first, she was rejected but later on people of all colors accepted each other and celebrated a huge festival of colors. Big thanks to Antonia Seitz for initiating the project that was supported financially by the school board and parents’ board.

Visiting Fekat Circus

All children of pre-school and primary school went for a visit of Fekat Circus. It was an adventurous day where the children first enjoyed a show of the circus professionals. After that all children were invited to practice different circus activities themselves. It was a great day of fun for everybody.

Day trip to Sabahar

Students of grade 6 went on a day trip at the end of the school year to the silkworm farm and spinning factory Sabahar in Addis Ababa. Our students learned how the silkworms are being raised and more over how silk can be produced and processed. Everybody could try and understand how hard it is to spin the thread and to weave it afterwards. The name “Sabahar” is also very interesting: Saba was a queen in Ethiopia and har means silk.

Strangers become Friends

The final project of the kindergarten was a great musical called „Strangers become Friends“ and was shown on June 11th on the big stage at the gym. Topics of the songs were “differentness” and “friendship”. It is great to see with what kind of enthusiasm and happiness our children of all ages in the kindergarten sing and dance on the stage. Big thanks to the head of kindergarten Sigun Pohl and all of her team members.

Adventures of grade 5

Students of grade 5 started their adventure to explore new lands together with Tefie and Mrs. Wendt on May 17th. After 3,5 hrs in the spaceship “party bus” the group landed safely in their base camp Negash Lodge. All crew members needed to cool down immediately and jumped into the pool. A party was given by DJ David in the evening. On Thursday, they could explore Wenchi Crater Lake on foot, horse and by boat. All students enjoyed lots of pizza and a movie after a great day of hiking. Friday presented another chance to hop into the pool before the group went back to Addis Ababa.

Music-Theater Addis.Sound.Prosa

The performance „Addis.Sound.Prosa.“ which is a unique music-theater-project has been shown on Thursday, February 23rd at the gym of DBSAA. This reading concert is a unique mix of music, recitation and theatre and is based on lyrics that students of grade 9 to 11 have written themselves within the framework of a poetry slam. Texts describe Addis Ababa from their special point of views. The rock band of the German Embassy School had been extended to a small orchestra and acted on stage together with reciters and Ethiopian guests of Andinet International School. A special thanks goes to the German director and actors’ trainer, Martin M. Hahnemann, and of course our music and art teacher, Ralf Werner, who was the project manager. Addis.Sound.Poetry has been supported by the German Embassy Addis Ababa and ZfA which is the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad.

We're all in the same boat!

We’re all in the same boat – that was the motto that came up together with the plans of reconstructing the slide on the kindergarten playground. The boat “MS Dresden” is now travelling on the open sea from Ethiopia to Germany and back. It is so big that almost all kids can be on it at the same time. Big thanks to the parents’ council for supporting this project financially and of course to the care taker team of Werner Pohl for building the boat. Many adventures are waiting for the kids!
